Keep access control, door entry, alarm and security equipment operating reliably with our range of 12V sealed lead acid batteries. These rechargeable SLA batteries are suitable for compatible power supply units and control equipment requiring dependable standby or backup power.
The collection includes compact batteries for smaller control panels and restricted enclosures, along with higher-capacity options for systems with greater standby power requirements. Typical applications include access control panels, door entry systems, fire alarms, intruder alarms, CCTV equipment and compatible automatic door systems.
Choosing the Right 12V Battery
The correct battery depends on the requirements of the equipment, the available space inside the enclosure and the standby capacity needed by the system.
Battery capacity is measured in amp-hours (Ah). A higher Ah rating provides greater stored capacity, but it does not automatically mean that every system will operate for a specific length of time. Actual standby duration depends on factors including the connected load, battery condition, operating temperature, charging equipment and the system’s low-voltage cut-off.
Always check the control panel or power supply manufacturer’s specification before choosing a replacement battery. The physical dimensions should also be checked carefully, particularly when installing a battery inside an existing power supply or control enclosure.
Batteries Available in This Collection
Our current range covers several commonly used capacities and enclosure sizes:
-
BAT1-12 12V 1.2Ah Sealed Lead Acid Battery – a compact battery measuring approximately 97 × 43 × 53mm. Suitable for compatible smaller access control, door entry, alarm and low-voltage backup applications.
-
BAT2-12 12V 2.3Ah Sealed Lead Acid Battery – a slim battery measuring approximately 178 × 34 × 60mm, making it useful where enclosure width is restricted.
-
BAT3-12 12V 3Ah Sealed Lead Acid Battery – a practical mid-range option measuring approximately 134 × 67 × 60mm for compatible security, access control and emergency backup systems.
-
BAT712 12V 7Ah Sealed Lead Acid Battery – a larger-capacity battery measuring approximately 151 × 65 × 94mm. This size is commonly selected for control panels and power supplies requiring increased standby capacity.
-
BAT17-12 Large-Capacity 12V Sealed Lead Acid Battery – measuring approximately 181 × 76 × 167mm and intended for compatible systems with greater backup power requirements.
Comparing both the electrical specification and physical size will help prevent ordering a battery that is unsuitable for the equipment or too large for the enclosure.
Batteries for Access Control Systems
Access control systems often rely on a mains-powered PSU with battery backup. If mains power is interrupted, the connected battery can support compatible controllers, keypads, readers and locking equipment according to the design and configuration of the system.
Our 12V batteries can be used with suitable equipment across a wide range of Access Control Parts, including systems using keypads and proximity readers, electric locking devices and maglocks.
The complete system load should be calculated before selecting a battery. Remember to account for all connected equipment, rather than assessing only the control panel or locking device.
Automatic Door and Security Applications
Selected batteries in this range may also be suitable for compatible automatic sliding door control equipment and backup power supplies. Check the door operator or control unit documentation before installation, as voltage, capacity and charging requirements can vary between systems.
For additional repair, installation and maintenance equipment, explore our full range of Automatic Door Parts.
Sealed lead acid batteries are also widely used in compatible fire alarm, intruder alarm, CCTV and general security systems. Products for connecting access control and door equipment to alarm systems can be found in our Fire and Alarm Activation collection.
Using 12V Batteries in 24V Systems
Each battery in this collection is rated at 12V. Certain compatible 24V systems can use two matching 12V batteries connected in series, but this should only be done where the equipment manufacturer specifically permits it.
Where batteries are used as a pair, they should be matched for type, capacity, condition and age. Always follow the wiring, charging and replacement instructions supplied with the relevant power supply or control equipment.
If you are replacing batteries in an existing 24V arrangement, check whether the manufacturer recommends replacing both batteries together.
Check the Battery and Enclosure Size
Capacity is only one part of choosing the correct battery. Before ordering, measure the available space inside the enclosure and compare it with the dimensions shown on the product page.
You should also check:
-
The required system voltage and battery capacity
-
The maximum battery size accepted by the enclosure
-
The charging capability of the power supply
-
Cable length and connection position
-
Clearance around the battery and internal components
-
The equipment manufacturer’s approved battery specification
Never force an oversized battery into a control panel or PSU enclosure. Cables should not be stretched, trapped or routed where they could be damaged by the enclosure cover.
Battery Inspection and Replacement
Rechargeable sealed lead acid batteries gradually lose performance as they age. Their service life can be affected by temperature, charging conditions, discharge frequency and the electrical load placed on the system.
Batteries should be inspected and tested as part of the system’s planned maintenance schedule. Replace any battery showing signs of damage, swelling, leakage or reduced performance, following the equipment manufacturer’s instructions.
Before replacing a battery, isolate the equipment safely and observe the correct polarity. Battery terminals must not be short-circuited. Used lead acid batteries should be taken to an appropriate battery recycling or waste facility rather than disposed of with general waste.
