Shear Locks & Electric Bolts

Our shear locks and electric bolts provide concealed or positive locking for professional access-control installations where a conventional electric strike or surface maglock is not the best fit. The range includes monitored shear locks, fail-safe solenoid and drop bolts, weather-resistant motorised deadbolts and dedicated mounting accessories for timber, aluminium, metal and suitable glass-door systems.

Shear locks for discreet high-strength locking

A shear lock draws its armature into the lock face when the door is correctly aligned, resisting movement in shear while keeping the hardware discreet. The MSL-2600 offers up to 2600lb (1200kg) maximum shear force, 12/24V DC automatic voltage selection and door-position monitoring. Use the SH2600 surface housing or GD2600 glass-door bracket kit where required.

For higher-specification projects, the Adams Rite 1354 range provides compact mortice and surface shear magnets with nominal 1500kg holding force and adjustable 1–30 second locking delay.

Electric drop bolts and solenoid bolts

Electric bolts project a physical bolt into a receiver when the door is correctly closed. The collection includes mortice and surface models plus the DBGLS150 for frameless glass-door applications. Fail-safe models release when power is removed; the complete door and escape system must always be selected to suit the building, door use and applicable safety requirements.

Motorised deadbolts for gates and secure entrances

The MED-57 and MED-57K provide IP57 motorised locking for controlled gates and secure entrances, with position sensing and lock indication. The MED-57K adds manual key override.

Choosing the correct lock

Check door and frame material, available clearances, mounting position, fail-safe operation, supply voltage and current, monitoring requirements and door alignment before ordering. Shear locks and drop bolts require consistent door alignment; a high holding-force figure cannot compensate for a door that drops, twists or does not return accurately to the closed position.
