Our shear locks and electric bolts are intended for professional access control installations where a standard electric strike or surface-mounted maglock is not the right fit. Choose from fail-safe mortice drop bolts, surface solenoid bolts, high-holding-force shear locks and motorised electric deadbolts, together with the brackets and housings needed for different door constructions. Options within the range include monitored locking, door-position feedback, adjustable relocking delays and manual override facilities.

Shear locks for discreet, high-strength locking

A shear lock works differently from a conventional surface maglock. When the door closes, the armature is drawn into the lock face so the two components resist movement in shear. This produces a strong locking point while allowing the hardware to remain more discreetly mounted within the door and frame.

Our range includes the MSL-2600 fail-safe shear lock, offering a holding force of up to 1,180kg. It can be used on timber, metal and aluminium doors, with monitoring outputs and automatic voltage selection for 12VDC or 24VDC access control systems.

Where mortice fitting is not practical, matching surface housings are available. We also stock dedicated glass-door brackets for installing the MSL-2600 on suitable frameless glass doors and headers without drilling directly into the glass.

Electric drop bolts and solenoid bolt locks

Electric drop bolts secure the door by projecting a physical bolt into a keep or receiver once the door reaches the correct closed position. They are commonly used on controlled entrances where a compact locking arrangement is required.

The collection includes both mortice and surface-mounted solenoid bolts, with selected models offering fail-safe operation, monitored locking plates, door-position contacts and adjustable delay timers. We also supply purpose-designed electric drop bolts for frameless glass doors, helping retain the clean appearance of the installation without compromising the access control function.

A fail-safe function.

A fail electric bolt releases when power is removed. This may be required for certain escape and emergency-release arrangements, but the complete door system must always be designed around the building, door use and relevant safety requirements.

Motorised electric deadbolts for gates and secure entrances

Motorised deadbolts provide positive physical locking for access-controlled doors, gates and perimeter entrances. Models in this collection are available with or without a manual override, allowing the installer to choose the most appropriate release arrangement for the site.

These locks can include position sensing, lock-status indication and signal-controlled release. The motorised deadbolts currently offered are also suited to demanding indoor or outdoor installations, including commercial gates, industrial premises, warehouse entrances and controlled staff access points.

Choosing the correct access control lock

Check the complete installation before selecting a shear lock or electric bolt. Important points include:

• Required fail-safe or locking operation
• Supply voltage and current demand
• Holding-force requirement
• Door and lock-status monitoring
• Automatic relocking delay

• Compatibility with glass-door brackets or surface housings

Door alignment is particularly important with shear locks and drop bolts. A high holding-force figure will not compensate for a door that drops on its hinges, twists or fails to return consistently to the correct closed position.
