A magnetic lock is only as reliable as the way it is mounted. Correct alignment between the maglock and armature plate is essential for achieving a consistent hold, reducing unnecessary strain on the components and giving the installation a clean, professional finish.

Choosing the Right Maglock Bracket

The correct bracket depends on the direction in which the door opens, the construction of the frame and the particular maglock being installed. Before ordering, check the maglock model number and consider:

• Whether the door opens inwards or outwards

• The depth and shape of the door frame or header

• Whether the installation uses a single or double maglock

• The position of the magnet and armature plate

• Whether the lock is intended for internal or external use

• The required bracket finish

• The space available for mounting and adjustment

Maglock brackets are generally designed for specific lock bodies and armature plates. A bracket intended for an ML600, for example, should not be assumed to fit an ML1200 or another manufacturer’s magnetic lock. Always check the product title, dimensions and stated compatibility before purchasing.

L Brackets

Maglock L brackets provide an additional mounting surface when the existing frame or header does not offer enough space to secure the magnet correctly. They are commonly used on outward-opening arrangements, narrow door frames and installations where the lock needs to be brought forward from the frame.

Standard and adjustable L brackets are available for different maglock sizes and configurations. Adjustable versions can be particularly useful where the door and frame do not sit perfectly level or where additional positioning is required during installation.

Z&L Brackets

Z&L maglock brackets are commonly used on inward-opening doors. The L bracket supports the magnet at the frame, while the adjustable Z bracket positions the armature plate on the moving door leaf.

This arrangement allows the armature plate to meet the face of the magnet correctly when the door closes. The adjustable design also helps installers compensate for variations in frame depth and door position.

Our range includes Z&L brackets for standard, slimline, double and selected external maglocks. Dedicated external bracket options should be used with compatible gate and weather-resistant maglocks rather than substituting brackets intended for internal doors.

Armature Plates and Housings

The armature plate is the steel plate that makes contact with the magnetic lock. It must sit squarely against the magnet while retaining any movement specified by the lock manufacturer so that it can align correctly when the door closes.

Replacement armature plates are available for selected maglock ranges, along with armature housings that provide a neater and more protected mounting arrangement. These accessories are useful when replacing lost or damaged components or adapting an existing installation.

Extension Plates and Fixing Kits

Extension plates can provide additional mounting space where the door frame is too narrow, recessed or unusually shaped. They can also help bridge gaps and create a more suitable fixing surface for compatible maglocks and bracket assemblies.

Replacement fixing kits are available for selected maglocks and brackets. These provide compatible bolts and fittings when the original installation hardware is missing, worn or damaged.

Installation and Compatibility

Correct alignment is particularly important with electromagnetic locks. If the magnet and armature plate do not meet evenly, the lock may not achieve its intended holding performance. The door should close freely, the bracket should be securely fixed to a suitable surface, and the armature should be installed in accordance with the relevant product instructions.

External gates and exposed entrances require accessories specifically intended for the corresponding external maglock. Door construction, frame strength, cable routing and the wider access control system should also be considered before installation.
